Rig NDT Inspection Services

Non-Destructive Testing for Drilling & Workover Rigs

RFC provides non-destructive testing (NDT) services for rig structures, equipment, and components to help identify cracks, corrosion, wall loss, and other discontinuities without damaging the inspected items.

Equipment & Components We Inspect

  • Masts, Derricks & Substructures
  • Rig Floor Structures & Crown Support Structures
  • Structural Welds & Connections
  • Pins, Shafts & Load-Bearing Components
  • Hooks, Elevator Links & Handling Equipment
  • Lifting Points, Pad Eyes & Lifting Beams
  • Tanks, Piping & Accessible Pressure Equipment

Our NDT Services

Visual Testing (VT)

Examination of accessible surfaces, welds, and components for visible damage, corrosion, deformation, and surface irregularities.

Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)

Detection of surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials, including applicable welds, pins, connections, and load-bearing components.

Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)

Detection of surface-breaking discontinuities in suitable non-porous materials, including applicable non-magnetic components.

Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

Examination of applicable welds and components for internal discontinuities.

Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement

Measurement of remaining wall thickness to assess corrosion and material loss in accessible structural members, tanks, and piping.

Supporting Rig Inspection & Maintenance

Our NDT services support:

  • Category III and Category IV structural inspection programs
  • Planned maintenance and shutdown inspections
  • Examination of damaged or suspect components
  • Weld inspection before and after repairs
  • Follow-up examination of previously identified defects

Testing methods, coverage, and acceptance criteria are defined according to the component, material, applicable standards, OEM recommendations, and client requirements.

Inspection Reports & Deliverables

Depending on the agreed scope, documentation includes:

  • NDT reports with component identification
  • Testing methods and examination coverage
  • Recorded indications and thickness measurements
  • Photographs and defect locations, where applicable
  • Evaluation against specified acceptance criteria
  • Recommendations for further assessment or corrective action
